Notch Layout#

Notch turns a dock into a black edge-attached shape that can fold into a small pill and unfold when you reach it.

Enable Notch#

  1. Select a dock in the Manager.
  2. Open Style.
  3. Set Layout to Notch.
  4. Choose the idle behavior and size in the Notch and Size & Spacing sections.
  5. Open Position and pick a spot in Notch Position.

Notch is always pinned to a screen edge. Each edge offers three positions: either end or the middle. Only a notch at the top center merges with the camera notch and reaches over the menu bar; at the top corners it sits just below the menu bar. A dot in the picker marks a spot another notch dock already uses, so several notch docks can share one screen. Changing the position animates the dock folding, moving, and unfolding; with Reduce Motion enabled it moves instantly.

Idle behavior#

When idle chooses what the notch does while you are not using it:

  • Show keeps the notch open.
  • Pill folds it to a small tab on the screen edge. Choose how it expands with Expand using and set the Expand after and Fold after delays.
  • Hidden slides it off the edge until the pointer touches that edge, with Hide after and Reveal after delays.

In Notch layout, Bar thickness is labeled Notch depth and controls how far the notch reaches from the screen edge.

Full-width, floating, desktop-widget, and ordinary dock auto-hide controls that do not apply are hidden or normalized while Notch is active.

The bottom edge requires Deep-hide native macOS Dock in Settings → General.

Switching to Notch resets settings that conflict with this layout. ExtraDock pins the dock, removes full width and the screen-edge gap, disables magnification and desktop-widget mode, and clears effects and the border. These values are not restored when you switch back to Dock layout. Review Style, Position, and Behavior after switching back.
