App-Wide Behavior Settings#

Open Settings → Behavior for defaults and rules shared by every dock.

Folders#

Open folders with chooses the application used when ExtraDock opens folders. The list shows installed file managers; Finder (default) is the default. Turn on Show all apps to list every installed app that can open folders. A folder item can set its own opener in its Item Options; see Items.

Dragging#

Enable magnetic snapping is on by default. Floating docks then snap to screen edges and centers while you drag them.

Reserve Dock Space#

Enable Reserve Dock Space to keep expanded app windows outside the areas held by pinned docks, like the native Dock does. Active on Drag also adjusts windows after a drag or manual resize, not only when a window is expanded; it is available only while Reserve Dock Space is on. Both are off by default.

A pinned dock participates only when Reserve space for this dock is also enabled in that dock's Behavior section. The feature needs Accessibility permission; without it, the section shows Allow Accessibility Access and windows are not adjusted.

Running Apps#

  • Show running indicators turns the running dots on or off for every dock. It is on by default.
  • Indicator color overrides the dot color. Use Default restores each dock's accent color or the automatic light/dark color.
  • Excluded Apps opens a list of running apps. Apps you switch off never appear in any dock's running-apps section. Reset All to Default clears the list.
  • Attention style controls how a launching app's dock tile draws attention: Bounce (the default), Flash Once, Badge Only, or Off.

Per-dock badge rules remain in the selected dock's Behavior section. Each Running Apps widget decides whether to show apps that currently own no windows; see Live Dock and Running Apps.

Gestures#

Both gesture groups are off by default.

Enable click gestures runs an action when you hold a modifier while clicking a dock icon instead of activating the app. Each combination has its own picker: ⌘-click (Reveal in Finder), ⌥-click (Hide or show the app), ⌥⌘-click (Show only this app), ⇧-click (Quit the app), and Middle-click (Quit the app). The available actions are Do nothing, Reveal in Finder, Hide or show the app, Show only this app, Quit the app, and Minimize the front window.

Enable scroll gestures runs an action when you scroll over a running app's icon. Scroll over an icon offers Cycle the app's windows (the default) or Show (up) or hide (down) the app.

Control-click always opens the context menu, so it never runs a gesture. Reveal in Finder is the only click gesture that works on files and folders. Individual items can override these choices; see Shortcuts and Gestures.
