AI Assistants#

Open Settings → Integrations and find AI Assistants (MCP). ExtraDock can expose its docks, items, widgets, and settings to a local AI assistant such as Codex or Claude Code through a Model Context Protocol connection. Nothing is exposed until you turn it on.

Turn on access#

Enable Allow AI assistants to configure ExtraDock. The Connection row shows whether the connection is running, for example Ready for assistant connections or Connection verified. If it reports that the helper is missing, reinstall ExtraDock from the official download.

Install the skill#

Choose Codex or Claude Code in Install assistant skill for, then click Install or Update Skill. The skill teaches the assistant how to discover only the ExtraDock tools it needs. Start a new chat after installing it.

Connect your assistant#

With access enabled, use Add to Assistant to copy a Codex or Claude Code command, or Copy Client Configuration to paste the server into another client's MCP settings. Manual Setup shows the same configuration. Use Check Connection to confirm the assistant can reach ExtraDock. ExtraDock 4 and ExtraDock 5 use separate connections, and the ExtraDock 5 server is named extradock-v5.

A connected assistant can read and change docks, items, widgets, app settings, and the icon library, and can show, hide, or toggle docks and open the Manager or Settings for you. It cannot activate licenses, grant macOS permissions, or turn off the approval prompts described below.

Approvals#

Deleting a dock or an item asks for your approval in ExtraDock. The prompt offers Allow Change, which approves only that request, Allow for This Session, which approves the rest of that chat, and Cancel. A request that waits more than five minutes expires. YOLO mode: skip approval prompts lets connected assistants delete docks and items, quit apps, and move files to the Trash without asking first. It is off by default.

Revert a change#

Click Revert Last AI Change to restore the configuration from before the assistant's last change. Changes you made by hand afterwards are kept.
