Auto-Hide and Collapse#

Auto-hide, hiding on window hover, and collapse are separate behaviors in ExtraDock 5.

Auto-Hide#

Open the dock's Behavior section and enable Hide automatically. Configure the Hide after and Reveal after delays. A pinned dock can reveal at or near its screen edge; a floating dock uses a local reveal area.

Hide on Window Hover#

Also in Behavior, enable Hide on Window Hover when the dock should get out of the way only while another app's window covers it. The dock fades, clicks pass through to the window beneath, and the dock returns once the area is clear. It is off by default and cannot be combined with Reserve space for this dock on the same dock.

Collapse#

Open the dock's Style section and turn on Collapse bar under Bar. The dock then folds down to a handle; click the handle to expand or collapse it, or use Collapse and Expand in the dock's right-click menu. The Collapse settings section controls the handle:

  • Button position — Auto, Start, Center, or End.
  • Button style — Arrow, Symbol (choose any SF Symbol), Text (one to five characters), or None for a background-only handle, plus a Button color.
  • Expand using — Click only requires a click on the handle; Handle only, Entire dock, and Automatic expand the dock when the pointer hovers over the chosen area. Hover expansion adds Expand after and Collapse after delays and an optional Extra hover area.

Collapse does not use the auto-hide reveal area. A floating dock can show a drag handle and a collapse control at the same time; they do not replace one another.

Notch layout#

Notch uses its own idle-mode control because folding is part of that layout. See Notch Layout.
