Creating & Managing Docks#

Every dock in ExtraDock is fully independent — its own apps, appearance, position, and behavior settings.

Creating a dock#

There are two ways to create a new dock:

  • Management window — Click Add Dock in the dock list
  • Empty state — If you have no docks yet, click Create Your First Dock

New docks are named Dock 1, Dock 2, and so on, and appear as floating horizontal docks on your current screen with default settings. Creating a dock requires an activated license.

Renaming a dock#

Open the management window, select the dock, and click the pencil next to its name in the header, or use the dock list's rename command. Enter the new name in the Rename Dock dialog.

Use names that match your workflow: "Dev", "Design", "Chat", "Utilities".

Duplicating a dock#

Select the dock in the management window, open Properties, then use Duplicate under Actions. The copy keeps the same items and settings.

Copy & paste settings#

Apply one dock's settings to another:

  1. Right-click the source dock → Copy Settings
  2. Right-click the target dock → Paste Settings

This copies icon size, drag-handle settings, magnification, auto-hide timing, Hide on Window Hover, fullscreen hiding, desktop-widget mode, hover-to-expand, and Show on All Screens. It does not copy the dock's items, colors, background, border, orientation, pinned edge, or screen assignments.

Removing a dock#

Right-click the dock background and choose Open Dock Settings. Under Properties → Actions, click Remove Dock. You'll be asked to confirm.

To hide a dock without removing it, right-click its background and choose Hide Dock. You can show it again from the menu bar.
